Wedding Invitations: What’s the word?
Writing a wedding invitation seems pretty straightforward. But is it? Sometimes it can be easy to miss some of the pertinent information you need to provide for your guests. So what does an invitation need to include?
Make sure you include the obvious details:
Who: (your names)
What: (it’s a wedding!)
Where: Ceremony and Venue location
When: Time (ceremony time and reception time) If you are having photos after your ceremony make sure you include the reception time. Alternatively, “reception to follow”
Make sure you provide additional information to your guests including easy to follow directions to the venue, parking options and list accommodation that is close by. If you have blocked off a section of rooms at a specific hotel, include your reservation information.
Are you having a backyard wedding? Or is your venue a swanky downtown restaurant? Give your guests and idea of the dress code. This can include wording like “smart casual, black tie, cocktail dress”. Also indicate if specific footwear is required. I personally got married on a boat so our invite included “boat appropriate footwear is required”. The last thing you want is a bunch of ladies showing up to a backyard garden wedding in stilettos.
Last but not least include your RSVP information. It can be helpful to have various forms of communication…an RSVP card, email or phone number are all possible options. Include an RSVP date.
Other than customizing some traditional and non-traditional elements you should be good to go!
